Asked 6/13/2017 – El Paso, TX
My mother received a knock on the door it was an El Paso Police Officer they are doing warrant round ups. The cop asked my mom for ID she provided without asking to specifically articulate the reason the officer explained that she had traffic warrants. The officer gave her the option of paying the violations or being incarcerated due to that if they are traffic violation I was under the understanding that no jail time comes from those violations just an effected driving record.
Answer
Class c misdemeanors such as traffic citations are punishable by fine only. If, however, a person is issued a citation and fails to appear in court as directed, or if a final judgments has been entered and the person does not pay any fine assessed, then a warrant for arrest can be issued and the person can be put in jail. Contact a local attorney to see what can be done.
