Asked 1/22/2016 – Houston, TX

I am under bond supervision in Harris County, I have failed a drug test in the past and will be failing this one as well. I do have doctor’s notes from the same doctor stating the nature of why I am on these medications and the willingness to get me off these habit forming medications and onto something that will not cause me to test positive. Should I be worried about anything I do not want to visit my bond supervisor today and get arrested on the spot.

Answer

If you have a prescription for the drugs you tested positive for, you should not have a problem. Provide a copy of the prescription to your bond supervisor. A doctor has prescribed these medications for a reason: to treat a specific illness or condition. The legal system will generally not interfere with your medical treatment. However. if the medications you are on make you more susceptible to abuse other substances, and there are other treatments available, you should probably consider the alternative treatment.
