Asked 4/20/2016 – La Porte, TX

I received 3 tickets at once: 1) No liability insurance, 2) Failure to report change of address/name and 3) FTA. These total $1430. Is there a statute of limitations in these tickets??

Answer

The State has 2 years from the date of offense to file the charging instrument with the court. Once the case is filed, the statute is tolled and the case can remain pending for an indefinite period of time. Do NOT pay or make arrangement to pay these citations without talking with a local attorney first. A conviction for no insurance can cause your driver’s license to be suspended and impose $750 in surcharges to be imposed by the Department of Public Safety.
