Asked 1/18/2016 – Pearland, TX

We have been given guardianship of an adjudicated juvenile on probation from the Brazoria county court system. We are elderly and have spent a lot of money getting the mother ready to take custody in Galveston county. The mother recently had her automobile repossessed and we do not feel that the court will transfer him from us to her. We want to end this guardianship now. We have waited for two years to get out from under this responsibility and do not see this ending. We are willing to have him go back into the juvenile court system now. I am ready to move out of state to escape this responsibility.

Answer

If a court ordered legal guardianship has been entered, you must file a petition with that court to terminate that guardianship. Contact one of the attorneys involved in the guardianship process; if they are not helpful, contact the District Attorney who represented the State on the adjudication on the juvenile.
