Asked 7/30/2016 – McKinney, TX

I have warrants from 2013 for traffic tickets; I am a single mom and the only one to take care of my one year old who is still breastfeeding. I cannot sit in jail there is no one to take care of my daughter, and I have no money. What do ppl in my situation do? I can’t sit in jail because of my baby and I have no money but I can’t get a job because my background checks won’t go through.

Answer

There are 3 ways to remove traffic warrants: 1) pay the fines, 2) post bonds to remove the warrants and set the cases for court, or 3) go to jail and serve the fines out by receiving credit for time served in jail. You can contact local attorneys who can give you an idea of what it will cost to post bonds, but don’t just give up and say, “I can’t, I can’t, I can’t” to everything. The warrants won’t just disappear, and you certainly don’t want to get stopped and taken to jail while your child is in the car. You may have to ask for help from family; I’m fairly certain you didn’t get that baby all by yourself.
