Asked 1/30/2016 – Austin, TX

I have a friend who was arrested last year on July 17,2015 he has been in travis county jail since then and has not gone to court yet. his court dates keep getting rescheduled. also his court appointed lawyer has only gone to see him twice since he has been in there and there are other guys that have him as a lawyer and they have already been to court. his charge is for capital murder but from the information that his lawyer has provided the court does not have any information connecting him to the murder.

Answer

Murder cases can take years to be resolved. Your friend’s attorney will probably see him when there is something to see him about, The case will not be resolved without the defendant’s participation, so his options will be explained to him at some point. I know everyone involved is anxious about the outcome of this case, but if the defendant can’t stand waiting in jail, ask his attorney to set a bond reduction hearing to see if he can get out of jail while the case is pending (unlikely;y for this type of case).
