Asked 8/30/2016 – Kingsville, TX

I am 17 and my boyfriend just turned 20, we are madly in love and have so many plans for our future and he is going to college and I will to so we are planning on being successful. We have been dating secretly since I was 15, in tired of the hiding but I wanted to know if we were to tell them or if they were to find out, could my parents send him to jail/prison. I read that it was okay as long as they are not 3 years older than me. I don’t want him to get sent away, but I don’t want to tell my mom and dad and he get in trouble.

Answer

The age of consent in Texas is 17. There is nothing illegal about your current relationship., If, however, there was any sexual contact between the two of you before you turned 17, a criminal offense was committed and can still be prosecuted, even after you became of age.
