Is it illegal to travel internationally if you have been indicted with Class 2 felony but have no court ordered restriction?

I have not been indicted yet, but have been charged with a felony assault Class 2. I have heard that it is illegal but there is no court ordered restriction on me leaving the country. I checked the DPS state database and did an FBI check and my records do not show. Does customs check a different database then that when leaving and entering the country? What about most other countries when entering?

Answer

The court may not have a problem with you traveling, but expect it to be an issue when attempting to leave the country. Yes, customs has access to a much more detailed database than the DPS public website, and yes, customs will make an issue of the pending case. Talk with your attorney about your travel plans.
