Asked 8/4/2016 – San Antonio, TX

Hale County is pressing POM charges resulting from a traffic stop. The defendant lives in San Antonio, and attends College in the Austin Area. Is it more important that the Attorney be in closer proximity to the Client or that the Attorney works and is familiar with the Court in question, even if this precludes a thorough working relationship between Attorney and Client?

Answer

All other things being equal, it would probably be more cost effective for you to retain an attorney in the county where the case is filed; otherwise you will be paying extra for travel time to every court appearance. Attorneys and clients can talk over the phone, but court appearance must be made in person.
