My wife was involved in a car accident 3-4 days back. She was taking left turn on left arrow (no yielding) signal. There were 2 left turning lanes and there were total of 6 cars, 3 in each lane turning left with my wife being 3rd on outer lane (right side). Car from opposite side hit my wife’s car on right side corner while she was about to finish her turn. Due to impact, she hit the electric pole in front too. It was bad impact and safety bags were deployed. Luckily my wife was safe and escaped with bruises. But she was in shock and didnt know how to respond during the accident. By the time police came, other driver had a witness ready who gave statement that ” it was green light for them and my wife was trying to beat the red light and was hit”. But my wife took left turn when it was green light and light changes color to red within 5-6 seconds on that signal. Police gave ticket for my wife for running red light and wrote report saying my wife ran red light based on just that witness. Insurance company just talking with witness, my wife and other driver determined her fault. Opposite insurance company is different. So they have made my wife liable for everything.

Answer

You can consult a personal injury attorney. Please try to see if there are video tape at that intersection. I would visit the gas stations and or banks that covered that intersection. Also, obtaining the 911 call sheets and 911 calls for that accident will help get some important witness information. Most of the time, 911 calls will provide you with the witness name and phone number. You can contact the witness and get their statements. Keep in mind that the 911 calls are only in the system for 30 days (depending on city).
