Asked 4/5/2016 – Arlington, TX

My license expired Aug 2015 and couldn’t be renewed until I paid off a thousand dollar ticket. I’ve been saving for the ticket to get my license renewed. Well unfortunately I still have to get to work and school so I’ve been driving my car, Fully insured w/o a license, insurance is in my name and company is aware of invalid license. Well a coworkers car broke down and as I was taking her home, I was pulled over for a headlight and was also cited for No DL back in February. on April 1st I received a letter from DPS stating my license was suspended as of 02/11 and according to their website I cant appeal after 20 days of suspension and I didn’t find out until almost 2 months in.

Answer

It’s going to be tough to avoid the occupational license and SR-22 requirements. Your license was suspended, you knew your license was suspended, and you were caught driving while your license was suspended. My experience has been: Judges don’t like to hear, “Well, I HAVE to drive”. A driver’s license is not a right, it is a privilege. Contact a local attorney, review your driving history and figure out what can be done.
