My fiancé has been in county jail since 7/14/2016 manufacturing and delivery <4g methamphetamines. His attorney was appointed almost 2weeks ago no response or return call no meeting or nothing. my fiancé was injured at the jail due to poor conditions and improper installation of a table in the cell…. he was rushed to the ER…. his attorney has yet to appear or call …. is it just this atty or is there some kind of timeline to when an inmate normally meets his appointed counsel
Answer
There is no deadline for an attorney to meet with an inmate as you describe. With drug cases, it generally takes the State a while to proceed with an indictment; the drugs must be sent to a crime lab for analysis, and the results returned before a case is presented to a Grand Jury. If the case has not been filed, there may not be much for the attorney to review. That being said, I am not making excuses for the lawyer. Contact this attorney and ask when he/she plans to confer with your fiancée. There may be facts that could be presented to the Grand Jury that could prevent an indictment.
