Asked 3/26/2016 – Houston, TX

My husband was convicted of sexual assault in 1989 in Ohio. He is no longer required to register as a sex offender in the state of Ohio. We are considering moving to the Houston, Texas area (specifically Lake Conroe area) and are wondering if he will need to register there as a sex offender even though he is officially off the registry here

Answer

You would have to look at the Ohio statue your husband was convicted of, and find the comparable Texas statute. If the Texas statute would require him to register, the n he will have to register; if not, not. Obtain a copy of the indictment in his case and subsequent judgment. Show it to a n attorney in Lake Conroe and have him/her review everything.
