Asked 5/23/2016 – Laredo, TX

I was arrested and I was indicted by the grand jury and i am going to trial. I feel the city I am I am not going to get a fair trial. I feel I am being discriminated because I am a minority and my city is not a diversified city. It is in the border and is predominantly 98% Hispanic and I am not Hispanic.
The city I live has a lot of dirty politics.
I have a public defense attorney, can I request the same attorney or would get a public defense attorney if my request gets approved of transfer my case?
I paid the property taxes of a couple whose property was being sold by the Sheriff on the first Tuesday of the month. I am being charged of “Procurement and securing of documents. The couple property did not get sold because I paid their property taxes and they signed, notarized that they understood the contract. However, now they claim they thought they were getting a loan and not signing a quit claim deed. I made them sign a quit claim deed and signed/ notarized that if they make 39 weekly payments they can repurchase the property from me. Both parties went to an investigator of the sheriff and he said that it was a civil matter. I was arrested and now I going to trial?

Answer

It is possible to request a change of venue on your case and have it transferred to another county. Your attorney would have to file the appropriate motion, and a hearing must be held on the issue. Talk with your lawyer on the issue
