Asked 8/4/2016 – Boyd, TX

Hello, I’m 23 years old. About a month ago I received two citations: One for speeding, and the other for drug paraphernalia (grinder). My court date is 8/4 but they have given me more time to make my decision 8/12. I have no idea what to do, as I’ve never been in this situation. I just do not want this paraphernalia charge to be on my record. Help please!

Answer

You have to make the determination on whether or not you want to hire an attorney to represent you on your case. I do know that it is not possible for any attorney to basically represent you over the internet and tell you how to handle your case. If you choose to represent yourself, enter a plea of not guilty and you should have the opportunity to speak with a city prosecutor about a plea bargain that achieves your goals. If you are uncomfortable with that prospect, start calling local attorneys.
