Asked 2/20/2016 – Meridian, TX

I was arrested for felony evasion and a prohibited weapon and placed on deferred adjudication five years ago. I was present for six meetings with my probation officer and passed all ua’s. I was arrested last month on a motion to proceed to adjudication warrant and was told by judge to return with an attorney at my next court date (March 7). As I am unable to afford an attorney, I was just told by the district clerk to show up at court and request a court appointed attorney and would be given an application at that time.

Answer

If you cannot afford an attorney, one will be appointed to represent you. You will not be held in contempt for failing to retain private counsel.
