Asked 3/28/2016- Dallas, TX

I’m 16 and I was caught shoplifting 3 bottles of champagne in Walmart and was given a citation (Misdemeanor C – Theft) and a juvenile inquiry. I have municipal court next month, and this is my first offense. Officers claimed Walmart would like to press charges and that I am no longer allowed at that Walmart (If I return I may be arrested for trespassing), but this incident occurred at the beginning of February and the only people that I have heard from was the police department, no letters from Walmart.
What are the most likely charges that I will be facing?
And what are all the possible charges I could be facing?
How can I make sure my record remains clean, as I would like to apply for a job in summer?

Answer

Theft is a crime of moral turpitude, and a conviction on this type of case can affect you for the rest of your life. A class c misdemeanor is punishable by a maximum fine of up to $500 plus court costs. Please contact a local attorney to try to keep this from your record.
