Asked 5/4/2016 – Magnolia, TX

I have a criminal case that I was on probation for and got revoked. I ended up serving 6 months state jail and thought that my fines would have been taken care of also since I had to do jail time. The amount was 5500 and I payed the restitution part back already which left me owing 2400. I am trying to get my life back together after I recently got in trouble again. I went to get my license so I could find a job and took my written test and was waiting for driving part. My birthday came before the test and DFS system updated which then flagged my license due to fines owed on this case. The case is from 2007 and I still owe 2400. I called the courts and they told me to hire a lawyer or I could find a form to fill out and turn in. Then I would be given a court date to go before the judge asking to reduce or waive my fines. She could not tell me what the form is but I had to find out on my own.

Answer

What you are asking is for the Court to either probate the balance of your fines and costs due, or give credit for the time you served in jail towards this amount. Unfortunately, there is not a cut and paste form I can point you to. Write the Judge a letter explaining your situation and see what the response is (if you do not want to hire an attorney).
