Asked 8/16/17 – San Antonio, TX
I got caught shoplifting a bottle of Delsym cough syrup & two bottles of Robitussin gel caps (both DXM products) for my “addicted” friend, at Wal-Mart, they asked for my information and offered me to sign up for Corrective Education program (CEC) which means pay off a fine of $500 over a period of 5 months, and complete a online education course. I agreed to enroll & gave them a signature. The only concern is that my family doesn’t have a lot of money as my mom gets most of it from my monthly SSI Income which is $674 & her child support which is $108 a month (she’s struggling to have a job) so what if I don’t do the program? Will I be arrested & will it go on my permanent record? They gave me a small paper saying that “In the Next 72 Hours” call CEC’s phone number and then “In the 30 Days” complete a education course. Afterwards it says “Failure to pay and complete this program will result in this matter being referred back to Wal-Mart”. Help would be much appreciated soon; I’m very anxious about this and haven’t even told my mom about it yet.
Answer
Who is the “they” when you say “they…offered me to sign up for…”. If “they” refers to a court and you have entered a plea, then you must contact that court for an extension of time to pay. If “they” refers to some third party, bring all paperwork you have regarding this matter to a local attorney for review. Good luck
