Asked 8/9/17 – Cibolo, TX

I was out late past curfew I’m under 17 it was my first time getting arrested I have nothing on my criminal record I got my ticket and date to which I have to attend to go to court but what exactly is going to happen inside court I’m nervous because as I said it’s my first time coming across a cop, getting a ticket and even attending court

Answer

When you appear in court, you will be asked to enter a plea of guilty, not guilty or no contest to the charges filed against you. Just because you were given a ticket does not mean you are guilty; you have the right to take this matter to trial and force the State to prove the allegations against you beyond a reasonable doubt. Since you are under 17, a parent or legal guardian must appear with you in open court and can help you make the decision on how you wish to proceed. Contacting a local attorney would help.
