Asked 3/5/2016 – Galveston, TX

I am trying to look for a registration of a possible sexual offender in Texas. He has 2 convictions 1) as aggravated sexual assault and 2) indecent exposure. and He spent 6 months in jail too for one of the convictions. So this should make him qualify to be registered as a sex offender?

1st one was reduced to 2nd degree felony and 2nd was class B misdmnr. Does it make him NOT to be registered as sexual offender?

IS there any specific reason why a person with such a background need not /should not be registered as a sexual offender?

Answer

Sex offender registration is governed by Texas Code of Criminal Procedure Article 62. That statue will provides which offenses will require sex offender registration. In your specific example, it depends on what the charges were reduced to on whether registration applies.
