Asked 6/23/2016 – Lubbock, TX

I’m going to be getting my name legally changed in the state of Texas soon. On their petition, I believe it asks if you were every convicted of a crime. When I was 14, I went to court and did 20 hours of community service for petty theft under the amount of $25 in the state of Texas. They told me if I went to Teen Court and finished my community service, it would be removed from my record. I just want to see if it would still appear on my record or if I have to tell the judge about this. If so, how would I bring it up? Thanks everyone.

Answer

If you were CONVICTED of the theft, you must disclose it; if you were not convicted, you do not have to make as such disclosure. Contact the court where you appeared and make sure of the disposition.
